Magma Jet

Magma Jet was originally printed in the 2003 Mirrodin set and became a staple in Magic: The Gathering for its efficiency as both removal and deck manipulation via the Scry mechanic. When it was reprinted in the 2013 Theros set, the card was updated with new art by Johannes Voss, aligning with the block's Greco-Roman mythological theme. This version features the vivid, stylized aesthetic characteristic of the Theros set, emphasizing the high-fantasy interpretation of divine fire and volcanic power.

The design of the card focuses on the Scry 2 keyword, a mechanic that defines the Theros experience by allowing players to filter their libraries. Johannes Voss sought to capture the visceral nature of a jet of molten rock, moving away from the more industrial visual language of its original Mirrodin appearance to a more elemental, godly depiction fitting for a world inspired by ancient deities.
