Magma Opus // Magma Opus

Magma Opus was released in 2021 as part of the Strixhaven: School of Mages set, specifically within the Strixhaven Art Series. This series features double-sided cards that showcase the original artwork used on Magic: The Gathering cards on one side, with a clean, textless presentation, while the reverse provides details about the card and the artist. The creation of these art cards was intended to provide collectors with high-quality prints that highlight the detailed illustrations often obscured by game text.

The illustration for Magma Opus was crafted by artist Bastien L. Deharme, who utilized a vivid, elemental aesthetic to reflect the card's function as a powerful, versatile spell within the game's Izzet-aligned Prismari college. The design emphasizes the chaotic and creative nature of magical expression, a core theme of the Strixhaven expansion. Upon release, the card and its associated art were well-received by players and art enthusiasts alike for their expressive visual storytelling and the high production quality of the card stock.
