Mana Leech

Mana Leech was released in 1998 as part of the Urza's Saga expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. This set was a pivotal moment in the game's history, introducing complex mechanics like enchantments that could be played as creatures and the controversial 'free' spell cycle. The card was designed during an era where Wizards of the Coast was aggressively expanding the game's depth and competitive power level.

The card features artwork by Margaret Organ-Kean, who contributed several pieces to the Urza's block. Her style for this piece focuses on the macabre, parasitic nature of the creature, aligning with the dark, artifact-heavy lore of the Urza cycle. While the card is often cited by players for its underwhelming mechanical performance compared to other blue spells of that era, it remains a notable piece of the set's aesthetic identity and world-building.
