What it does

Add two mana in any combination of colors.

Draw a card.

For a moment, objects of pure mana glimmered in the wonderstruck boggart's hands. In the next moment, they were in his mouth, as he chewed contentedly.

Provenance

Where it came from

Manamorphose was released in 2008 as part of the Shadowmoor expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Developed during a period when Wizards of the Coast was exploring hybrid mana mechanics—which allow cards to be played using one of two different colors—the card was designed to facilitate mana fixing and deck thinning. Its ability to replace itself in a player's hand while providing two mana of any combination made it a flexible utility tool that quickly gained traction among competitive players.

The card features artwork by Christopher Moeller, who captured the surreal, unsettling aesthetic characteristic of the Shadowmoor plane. Moeller’s illustration depicts a figure caught in a moment of fluid transformation, mirroring the card's mechanical function of shifting mana types. Upon its release, the card was received as a strong addition to combo-oriented archetypes, and its utility has only increased over time as card pools expanded, cementing its status as a staple in various constructed formats.
