Where it came from
March from Velis Vel was released in 2024 as part of the Modern Horizons 3 Commander set. Designed for the Magic: The Gathering card game, this card serves as a tribal utility spell that draws upon the mechanics of the Changeling ability, which allows the card to represent every creature type simultaneously. This design choice honors the legacy of the Lorwyn-Shadowmoor block, where the shapeshifting nature of the Velis Vel inhabitants first became a central mechanical identity for players who enjoy highly synergistic, tribal-focused decks.
The card features artwork that reflects the surreal, ethereal aesthetic associated with the setting of Velis Vel. In the context of Modern Horizons 3, the card is positioned as a sophisticated tool for Commander players, offering a flexible way to bolster diverse creature strategies. It was developed by Wizards of the Coast to provide specialized support for players building decks around niche creature types, ensuring that even obscure tribes can benefit from powerful, color-agnostic reinforcement.
