Where it came from
March from Velis Vel was introduced as part of the Modern Horizons 3 Commander set, released in 2024. This set was designed to integrate powerful, nostalgia-driven mechanics and themes from Magic: The Gathering’s history into the Commander format, expanding on the design philosophy of the Modern Horizons series. The card specifically functions as a tribal-focused utility spell, leveraging the changeling mechanic to interact with various creature types.
The card features artwork by Johannes Voss, whose contributions to the game are characterized by a vibrant and ethereal style. In this piece, Voss depicts the mobilization of a shapeshifting force, emphasizing the fluid and adaptive nature of the creatures inhabiting the plane of Lorwyn-Shadowmoor. Upon its release, the card was received as a versatile tool for tribal synergy decks, praised by players for its ability to bridge gaps between disparate creature types within the game's complex rules architecture.
