Where it came from
Memory Deluge was introduced in the 2021 Magic: The Gathering set Innistrad: Midnight Hunt. It was designed as an instant-speed card draw spell, echoing the mechanics of classic selection cards while leaning into the gothic horror themes of the Innistrad plane. The promotional version, bearing collector number 62p, features unique art by Adam Paquette, who sought to capture the ethereal, water-logged atmosphere of the setting through a somber and moody color palette.
The card was received favorably by the competitive community due to its flexibility, allowing players to look at a significant portion of their deck before retrieving specific answers. Its design represents a refinement of traditional 'scry and draw' effects, providing players with distinct utility in the early and late stages of a game. This specific promotional treatment was distributed through Magic: The Gathering store events, serving as a reward for participants and a collectible piece for fans of the game's atmospheric art direction.
