Merciless Eviction

Merciless Eviction was originally printed in the Gatecrash expansion for Magic: The Gathering in 2013 and was later reprinted in the Commander 2016 set. It was designed as a versatile, high-cost sorcery intended for white and black decks, offering players the strategic flexibility to exile specific permanent types—artifacts, creatures, enchantments, or planeswalkers—to reset the battlefield state.

The artwork for the card was created by Johannes Voss, whose illustration emphasizes the destructive and sweeping nature of the spell. By depicting a radiant, purifying energy consuming varied magical constructs, the design seeks to visually communicate the card’s ability to wipe away multiple categories of permanents at once. It has generally been received by the player base as a staple of multiplayer Commander formats due to its reliable utility in dealing with diverse threats.
