Where it came from
Metallurgic Summonings was originally released as a rare enchantment in the 2016 Magic: The Gathering expansion set Kaladesh. The card was designed to support an artifact-centric playstyle, rewarding players for casting non-creature spells by creating construct tokens that scale in power based on the number of artifacts on the battlefield. Its design reflects the 'inventor's fair' aesthetic of the Kaladesh plane, which drew heavy inspiration from steampunk and optimistic industrial design.
The specific version identified as collector number 56s belongs to the Kaladesh Promos series. These promotional cards were often distributed through Wizards of the Coast's organized play initiatives, such as Friday Night Magic or prerelease events, to celebrate the launch of the set. Featuring alternate art or distinct foiling processes, these promotional variants were created to provide players with unique aesthetic options for their decks, often becoming sought-after items by collectors who appreciate the card's intricate, gear-focused illustration.
