Where it came from
Metallurgic Summonings was introduced in the 2016 Magic: The Gathering expansion set Kaladesh. Set within a vibrant, art-deco inspired world defined by magical invention and construct-based technology, the card was designed to support artifact-centric strategies. It reflects the set's core theme of ingenuity, rewarding players for casting non-creature spells by creating artifact creature tokens scaled to the spell's converted mana cost.
The card features artwork by Chase Stone, whose painterly style captures the shimmering, ethereal nature of the magical constructs manifesting within the setting's workshops. Upon its release, the card was recognized for its high power level in casual and Commander formats, praised by players for its ability to generate significant board presence and provide late-game utility through its graveyard recursion ability, which allows players to reclaim their utilized artifacts.
