Where it came from
Michiko Konda, Truth Seeker was originally printed in the 2004 Champions of Kamigawa set, drawing heavily from Japanese mythology and history. The character serves as the daughter of Lord Konda, and the card's mechanics were designed to reflect her role as a pivotal figure in the conflict that defined the plane's lore. This specific version was released as part of a Secret Lair drop, a series of curated, limited-run cards that often feature artistic reinterpretations of classic characters.
The Secret Lair edition features stylized artwork that deviates from traditional Magic: The Gathering card aesthetics, emphasizing a more modern, illustrative approach. These drops are frequently produced to celebrate specific themes or collaborations, catering to players who value unique visual identities. Upon release, this version was noted by the community for its distinct artistic direction, which contrasts with the original card's more conventional high-fantasy depiction.
