Mind's Desire

Mind's Desire was originally introduced in the Scourge set in 2003, designed by the Magic: The Gathering development team to showcase the powerful Storm mechanic. The card allowed players to exile the top cards of their library and cast them without paying their mana costs, creating explosive turns that quickly became a staple in competitive formats. Its design intent was to reward complex spell-chaining, though its raw efficiency led it to become a defining, and often controversial, centerpiece of combo decks throughout the game's history.

The version from the Strixhaven Mystical Archive, numbered 17, was released in 2021 as part of a special subset that reprinted iconic sorceries and instants from Magic's past. Featuring brand-new artwork by John Stanko, this iteration adopted the Archive's signature elegant, academic-themed frame that evokes the aesthetic of Strixhaven University. The release was well-received by collectors and players alike for its thematic cohesion and the opportunity to acquire such a potent, classic spell in a modernized, visually distinct presentation.
