What it does
Counter target spell. If that spell is countered this way, put it on top of its owner's library instead of into that player's graveyard.

Where it came from
Memory Lapse was originally introduced in the 1997 Magic: The Gathering set Mirage, serving as a signature blue counterspell that forces a player to place a targeted spell back on top of their library. The card gained notoriety for its ability to stall an opponent's momentum by delaying their draw, a mechanic that defined its role in competitive control decks for years.
The Strixhaven Mystical Archive version, released in 2021, reimagines the card with specialized artwork fitting the theme of a magical university's library. Illustrated by Dominik Mayer, this iteration utilizes the set's distinct 'Mystical Archive' border style, which emphasizes an aesthetic of ancient, scholarly artifacts to ground the card within the narrative of the Strixhaven school of mages.
