Where it came from
Minotaur de Force was released in 2022 as part of the Magic: The Gathering expansion set Unfinity. Designed as part of the game's silver-bordered 'Un-' series, the card leans into the humorous, meta-fictional tone established by previous sets. It was conceived to play with the literal mechanics of Magic, utilizing the unique 'attractions' and dice-rolling systems introduced in the set to parody standard combat tropes.
The card features artwork by illustrator Johannes Voss, who utilized a vibrant, whimsical style consistent with the retro-futuristic carnival aesthetic of the Unfinity plane. Upon its release, the card was received as a lighthearted mechanical novelty within the community. Its design is intended to reward players for embracing the chaotic, game-altering nature of the set rather than strictly competitive play.
