Where it came from
Miraculous Recovery was originally released as part of the Visions expansion in 1997, designed to introduce the graveyard-recurrence mechanics that defined the set's identity. This card functions as an instant-speed resurrection effect, a design choice intended to give white decks a tactical advantage in response to combat or removal. The mechanics reflect the set's thematic exploration of light and spiritual intervention, providing a classic utility spell that has remained a staple in niche format strategies.
For the Ultimate Masters release in 2018, this card received new artwork by illustrator Magali Villeneuve. Known for her focus on evocative, atmospheric portraiture within the Magic: The Gathering universe, Villeneuve reimagined the spell with a distinct focus on the emotional weight of a spectral return. The Ultimate Masters printing was received positively by the community, as the set was curated as a retrospective compilation of powerful or iconic cards, emphasizing its enduring role in casual and competitive formats.
