Where it came from
Mirrorwing Dragon first appeared in the 2016 Magic: The Gathering set Eldritch Moon, designed as a rare creature that rewards players for targeting their own creatures with spells. The card was specifically engineered for complex, interactive gameplay, encouraging players to build decks centered around combat tricks and protective instants. Its mechanical identity highlights the dragon's ability to mirror beneficial effects, turning a single spell into a widespread advantage for the controller's board.
This specific printing originates from the 2021 Strixhaven: School of Mages Commander expansion. The card was included as part of the 'Prismari Performance' deck, which focused on the red-blue color identity associated with creative expression and magical kinetics. The art features the dragon in a style consistent with the plane of Arcavios, illustrating its shimmering, reflective wings that define its unique game mechanic.
