Mischievous Poltergeist

Mischievous Poltergeist was originally introduced in the 1999 set Urza's Destiny. As part of a cycle of creatures that returned to their owner's hand, it reflects the block's focus on complex mechanics and the resource-heavy interactions typical of the Urza expansion era. The design was intended to balance an efficient early-game flying threat with a recurring drawback that required players to manage their mana resources carefully to keep the spirit on the battlefield.

The version appearing in The List, indexed as WTH-74, utilizes the original card art illustrated by Arnie Swekel. Swekel’s contribution to the game during this period is noted for its distinct, high-contrast style that helped define the visual identity of late-nineties Magic: The Gathering. While the card is often viewed as a niche utility piece rather than a competitive staple, its inclusion in The List serves as a nod to the game's long history and the enduring appeal of quirky, high-interaction creature designs from the early years of the game.
