Where it came from
Monastery Siege was originally introduced in the Fate Reforged expansion set as part of the Tarkir block, designed to represent the varied strategies of the Jeskai Way. It features a unique enchantment mechanic that allows players to choose between protection or card selection, a design choice intended to reflect the tactical flexibility of the monks of the Jeskai clan. The card's artwork, created by Magali Villeneuve, depicts the serene yet defensive nature of the monastery under siege.
The version from Commander 2017 included the card as a staple reprint, solidifying its place as a popular tool in multiplayer formats. By the time it was re-released in this supplementary set, the card had been well-received by players for its efficiency and versatile utility in the late game. It remains a classic example of enchantment design that balances defensive board presence with meaningful card advantage.
