Mox Sapphire

The Mox Sapphire was released in 1993 as part of the Limited Edition Beta set for Magic: The Gathering, the first trading card game developed by Richard Garfield and published by Wizards of the Coast. As one of the original 'Power Nine'—a collection of cards renowned for their extreme efficiency and game-altering impact—the Mox Sapphire was designed to provide a rapid mana advantage, allowing players to cast blue spells significantly earlier than intended. Its inclusion in the game's earliest sets established it as a cornerstone of competitive play and a defining artifact in the game's history.

The iconic illustration for the card was created by artist Dan Frazier.
