Where it came from
Mul Daya Channelers was released in 2010 as part of the Rise of the Eldrazi expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The set focused on the massive, reality-warping Eldrazi titans, and the card represents the Elves of Zendikar attempting to harness the chaotic mana energies released by these entities. Mechanically, the card was designed to reflect the tension between the plane's natural life force and the otherworldly corruption spreading across the landscape.
The artwork was illustrated by Dave Kendall, known for his atmospheric and often macabre style. Kendall sought to capture the duality of the card's effect, depicting the channelers as they struggle to focus their power while the environment shifts around them. Upon release, the card was noted by players for its unconventional gameplay function, which forces the caster to reveal the top card of their library, emphasizing the high-risk, high-reward nature of tapping into unstable mana sources.
