Murktide Regent

Murktide Regent was first introduced in the 2021 Magic: The Gathering expansion Modern Horizons 2, quickly establishing itself as a defining force in the Modern competitive format. This specific iteration hails from a 2023 Secret Lair drop, a series of curated, limited-release sets that reimagine existing cards with specialized, often experimental artistic styles.

The artwork for this Secret Lair version was created by the artist Kelogsloops, who utilized a distinct, fluid watercolor aesthetic to capture the creature's elemental and ethereal nature. By shifting the perspective from a standard creature portrait to a more abstract, atmospheric interpretation, the design sought to emphasize the card's role as a powerful, shifting entity within the game's lore, receiving positive attention from players who favor the line's emphasis on stylized artistic collaboration.
