Where it came from
Myojin of Cryptic Dreams was released in 2022 as part of the Neon Dynasty Commander set, a collection of preconstructed decks designed to accompany the main Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty expansion. This card represents a modern reimagining of the Myojin cycle, legendary spirits originally introduced in the 2004 Champions of Kamigawa set, which were defined by their use of indestructible divinity counters to fuel powerful effects.
The card features artwork by Wisnu Tan, who rendered the spirit in a distinctively ethereal and imposing style that bridges the gap between traditional Japanese folklore and the neon-soaked cyberpunk aesthetic of the set. Upon its release, the card was received as a versatile tool for blue-aligned Commander decks, noted by players for its synergy with strategies involving card draw and mana ramp, solidifying its place as a reliable, high-impact inclusion in the format.
