Myr Superion was released in the 2011 Magic: The Gathering set New Phyrexia. This set marked the culmination of the Scars of Mirrodin block, depicting the total corruption of the plane of Mirrodin by the mechanical, biological horrors known as the Phyrexians. The artwork was commissioned from the collaborative duo Jana Schirmer and Johannes Voss, who were instrumental in defining the aesthetic of this era of the game.
