Where it came from
Nadier, Agent of the Duskenel was released in 2020 as part of the Commander Legends expansion for Magic: The Gathering. This set was designed specifically for the Commander format, featuring a draft-focused environment that introduced numerous legendary creatures intended to serve as players' commanders. The character of Nadier is rooted in the high-fantasy lore of the plane of Kaldheim, characterized as a rogue elf who interacts with the set's token-centric mechanics.
The card was illustrated by the artist Bram Sels, who sought to capture the character's elven aesthetic while incorporating the dark, ethereal themes associated with the Duskenel. The design centers on the 'partner' keyword, a mechanic that allows players to utilize two commanders simultaneously, thereby facilitating broader deck-building versatility. Upon its release, the card was received as a nuanced choice for players focusing on token-generation strategies, balancing power with the tactical requirement of managing an army of elves.
