Nadier's Nightblade

Nadier's Nightblade was released in 2020 as part of the Commander Legends set, the first Magic: The Gathering expansion designed specifically for the Commander draft format. The card was created to provide a specialized support role for decks built around token generation, functioning as a drain effect that punishes opponents whenever the player's tokens leave the battlefield. This mechanic was designed to synergize specifically with the set's titular character, Nadier, Agent of the Duskenel, allowing players to build cohesive strategies around the cycle of creating and sacrificing tokens.

The card’s visual identity was brought to life by artist Randy Vargas, who utilized a dark, ethereal aesthetic to capture the blade's association with the rogue elf Nadier.
