Where it came from
Nadu, Winged Wisdom was released in 2024 as part of the Modern Horizons 3 expansion for Magic: The Gathering. Designed as a legendary creature for the Commander format, the card reflects the set's focus on high-power, modern-era mechanics that lean heavily into synergistic play patterns. The card serves as a centerpiece for decks built around land-based abilities and resource acceleration, drawing upon the lore of the plane of Bloomburrow, which features anthropomorphic creatures.
The card was illustrated by Wisnu Tan, who utilized a lush, detailed style to emphasize the character's avian nature and connection to natural resources. Upon its release, Nadu became a lightning rod for competitive discussion, as its triggered ability proved exceptionally potent in tournament formats, leading to significant conversations within the player community regarding its balance and impact on the game's competitive landscape.
