Nafs Asp

Nafs Asp was originally released in the 1993 Alpha set of Magic: The Gathering, designed by Richard Garfield to introduce players to the game's core mechanics of resource management and creature combat. As a black-aligned creature, the card reflects the game's early thematic focus on risk-reward gameplay, where players must pay life to empower the card, a hallmark of black magic's philosophy. The creature was illustrated by artist Dameon Willich, whose distinct, painterly style captured the eerie, gothic aesthetic that defined the game's inaugural year.

The version from the Fourth Edition, released in 1995, served as one of the game's first large-scale reprints, intended to stabilize the secondary market and improve card availability for a rapidly expanding player base.
