Where it came from
Nahiri, Forged in Fury was released in 2023 as part of the Magic: The Gathering micro-set March of the Machine: The Aftermath. This set was designed to serve as an epilogue to the conclusion of the Phyrexian invasion storyline, focusing on the shifting status of key planeswalkers and legendary figures across the multiverse. The card depicts Nahiri, the Lithomancer, in the aftermath of her physical and mental trauma during the conflict, emphasizing her role as a master of metal and stone in a state of diminished but focused power.
The card was illustrated by Victor Adame Minguez, who has been a consistent contributor to the game’s aesthetic for several years. The design goal was to translate Nahiri’s established affinity for equipment and artifact synergy into a mechanical form that reflects her survival through the war. Upon release, the card received attention from the Commander community for its ability to generate significant card advantage, though its narrow mechanical focus on equipment archetypes established it as a specialized tool for dedicated players rather than a general staple.
