Najal, the Storm Runner // Najal, the Storm Runner

Najal, the Storm Runner is part of the Dominaria United Art Series, a promotional set released by Wizards of the Coast in 2022 to showcase the conceptual illustration work behind the main expansion set. These cards serve as collectible, high-quality renderings of individual character designs, intended to celebrate the aesthetic depth of the Dominaria plane, which has been a cornerstone of the Magic: The Gathering multiverse for decades.

The artwork for this specific card was commissioned by the game's creative team to depict Najal, a character deeply tied to the lore of the Tolarian Academy and the elemental forces of the region. The design choices focus on capturing a sense of kinetic energy and arcane mastery, utilizing a visual language consistent with the 'high-fantasy' aesthetic prevalent in the Dominaria United set. These cards are highly regarded by collectors for their focus on the artistic labor involved in world-building rather than their utility in gameplay.
