Nantuko Cultivator

Nantuko Cultivator was released in 2019 as part of the Modern Horizons set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. This set was uniquely designed for direct-to-Modern play, intentionally bypassing Standard legality to introduce new cards and reprint classic favorites into the Modern format. The card itself represents the insectoid Nantuko race from the plane of Otaria, a species deeply connected to the cycle of life and death within the swamp and forest ecosystems.

The card’s artwork was illustrated by Lucas Graciano, a frequent contributor to the game’s aesthetic. Graciano’s design emphasizes the creature’s utilitarian role, depicting it in the midst of cultivating the land. The card functions as a utility creature, allowing players to discard land cards to grow its size, reflecting its theme of nourishment and growth.
