What it does

green mana white mana, Discard a card: Put a +1/+1 counter on target creature or that creature gains banding, first strike, or trample. (This effect lasts indefinitely. Any creatures with banding, and up to one without, can attack in a band. Bands are blocked as a group. If any creatures with banding a player controls are blocking or being blocked by a creature, that player divides that creature's combat damage, not its controller, among any of the creatures it's being blocked by or is blocking.)

Provenance

Where it came from

Nature's Blessing was released in 1996 as part of the Alliances expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The set was designed to explore the concept of polar opposites in its mechanics and themes, focusing on the tension between the forces of nature and the encroaching industrialism represented by the Phyrexians. As a green enchantment, the card reflects the set's broader mechanical focus on resource management and creature empowerment, serving as a tactical tool to bolster the player's board state during combat.

The card's distinct visual identity is the work of illustrator Dameon Willich, who contributed numerous pieces to the game during the mid-1990s. Willich's design emphasizes the raw, organic aesthetic common to green-aligned cards of the era, utilizing earthy tones and fluid, natural imagery to evoke a sense of magical growth. Upon its arrival, the card was viewed primarily as a functional addition to mid-level deck compositions, valued more for its utility in specific combat scenarios than for widespread tournament dominance.
