Provenance

Where it came from

Necroskitter was originally introduced in the 2008 Magic: The Gathering set Shadowmoor. It was designed to synergize with the set's focus on -1/-1 counters, rewarding players for weakening opponent creatures by allowing them to resurrect those fallen foes under their own control. The creature embodies the dark, gothic aesthetic of the Shadowmoor plane, which was envisioned as a distorted and unsettling reflection of the earlier Lorwyn setting.

The Modern Masters 2015 version of this card features the striking illustration by Jaime Jones, who has been a frequent contributor to the game. Jones utilized a somber, desaturated color palette to emphasize the creature's morbid, scavenger-like nature. Upon its reprint in the 2015 set, the card was received as a flavorful, albeit niche, inclusion for collectors who appreciated its unique mechanical ability to turn an opponent’s strategy against them.
