What it does
All Slivers have "3 generic mana, Sacrifice this permanent: Destroy target permanent."
Though Volrath is long dead, the slivers have become everything he wanted them to be: mindless instruments of destruction and despair.

Where it came from
Necrotic Sliver was released in 2007 as part of the Planar Chaos set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. This set famously explored an alternate history where the color pie of the game functioned differently, allowing mechanics typically associated with one color to bleed into others. As a member of the Sliver creature type, which functions as a hive mind sharing abilities across all controlled Slivers, this card provides a flexible removal effect by allowing players to sacrifice a Sliver to destroy any permanent.
The card features illustration by Nottsuo, whose work captures the grotesque, alien aesthetic synonymous with the Sliver evolution. The design was intended to give Sliver-based decks an answer to problematic permanents, bridging the gap between aggressive creature swarms and utility-based control. It was well-received by players for its efficiency and versatility, becoming a staple in Sliver tribal decks across various formats, particularly in the Commander format where its repeatable removal remains highly relevant.
