Needleverge Pathway // Pillarverge Pathway

Needleverge Pathway // Pillarverge Pathway was introduced in the 2020 Magic: The Gathering set Zendikar Rising. It belongs to a cycle of rare dual lands designed to support multicolored decks by allowing players to choose one of two colors upon playing the card, effectively providing flexibility in mana fixing without the life-total cost associated with shock lands or the entry-tapped drawback of many other cycles. This design was intended to balance the gameplay of the Standard format while capturing the shifting, unpredictable nature of the Zendikar plane.

The artwork for the card was created by Titus Lunter, who was tasked with visualizing the transformative terrain of Zendikar. The design depicts the rocky, precipitous environments characteristic of the set's setting, emphasizing the visual contrast between the Needle and Pillar versions. Upon its release, the card was well-received by competitive players for its efficiency and reliability, becoming a staple in various deck archetypes that required consistent color access in the early stages of a game.
