Nested Shambler // Nested Shambler

The Nested Shambler art card is part of the Modern Horizons 2 Art Series, released by Wizards of the Coast in 2021. This set was designed to celebrate the rich illustrative history of Magic: The Gathering by featuring high-quality, borderless versions of cards from the core Modern Horizons 2 expansion. These cards were specifically produced as collectible inserts found in set boosters, intended to showcase the intricate detail of the game's creature and spell designs without the interference of traditional card frames.

The artwork for this specific card was illustrated by Wisnu Tan, who was tasked with visualizing the unsettling and layered aesthetic of the Nested Shambler creature. In the game's lore, the creature represents a decaying form composed of smaller, parasitic life, a concept Tan captured through a dark, organic color palette and textured brushwork. Upon the release of the set, the card was well-received by collectors for its atmospheric quality, standing out as a notable example of the horror-themed creature design prominent within the broader Modern Horizons 2 collection.
