Provenance

Where it came from

The Nesting Dragon card was released in 2024 as part of the Outlaws of Thunder Junction Commander set. It features a design that integrates the creature-focused mechanics common to green-aligned Magic: The Gathering cards, specifically centering on the creation of Treasure tokens to reflect the draconic hoarding theme. The card was developed to provide synergy for players focused on dragon tribal or treasure-based strategies within the Commander format.

The artwork for the card was created by illustrator Manuel Castañón. The visual style leans into the high-fantasy aesthetic characteristic of the game, emphasizing the scale and protective nature of the dragon. Upon its release, the card was received as a functional utility piece for mid-to-high-power decks, praised for its ability to ramp resources while maintaining a board presence.
