Where it came from
Olivia, Opulent Outlaw was released in 2024 as part of the Outlaws of Thunder Junction Commander set for Magic: The Gathering. This set explores a genre-bending Western aesthetic within the game's multiverse, featuring iconic characters reimagined as outlaws in a frontier setting. The card depicts Olivia Voldaren, a long-standing vampire aristocrat from the plane of Innistrad, who has transitioned into a powerful crime boss orchestrating heists in this new, arid landscape.
The card was illustrated by Chris Rahn, who has been a prominent artist for the game for many years. His design choices for Olivia emphasize her characteristic elegance and vampiric nobility, blending traditional gothic aesthetics with the gritty, dusty motifs of a western bandit leader. The card received a positive reception from the player base for its mechanically aggressive ability to generate treasure tokens, which effectively mirrors the flavor of a greedy, opulent outlaw leader.
