Where it came from
New Perspectives was originally released in the Amonkhet expansion for Magic: The Gathering in 2017, designed as a rare enchantment that rewards players for cycling cards. It captures the flavor of the plane of Amonkhet, a world obsessed with death and the afterlife, where the act of cycling cards represents the cycle of rebirth central to the plane's culture. The card’s mechanics allow a player to reduce the cost of spells significantly once they have cycled a sufficient number of cards, facilitating explosive turns in combo-oriented decks.
The art for the card was created by Bastien L. Deharme, who utilized a ethereal and surreal aesthetic to reflect the enchantment's theme of shifting reality. In 2020, the card was reprinted in the Commander 2020 set as part of the 'Timeless Wisdom' preconstructed deck. This inclusion was notable for cementing its status as a staple for players utilizing cycling-focused strategies in the Commander format, where the card's ability to provide massive card advantage is highly valued by deckbuilders looking to cycle through their libraries efficiently.
