Nighthawk Scavenger // Nighthawk Scavenger

Nighthawk Scavenger was released in 2020 as part of the Zendikar Rising Art Series, a collection of double-sided cards dedicated to showcasing the original artwork of Magic: The Gathering cards. These cards were distributed exclusively in Zendikar Rising Set Boosters and were intended to allow collectors to appreciate the illustrative detail of the game's expansive fantasy world without the card frame and game text found on standard play pieces.

The illustration for this card was created by artist Igor Kieryluk, a veteran contributor to the franchise. Kieryluk sought to capture the predatory and vampiric aesthetic of the Zendikar setting, emphasizing a dark, avian-inspired creature design that builds upon the visual legacy of the classic Vampire Nighthawk. Upon its release, the art series was well-received by the player base for its high-quality foil-stamped treatment and its focus on the creative labor behind the game's visual identity.
