Provenance

Where it came from

The Ninja token was released as part of the Foundations set for Magic: The Gathering, designed to provide a standardized, physical representation for creature types generated by gameplay mechanics. In the context of the game, tokens are created by various spells and abilities rather than being part of a player's starting deck, necessitating these supplemental cards to maintain board state clarity during matches.

The visual design follows the aesthetic direction of the broader Foundations release, which emphasizes accessible, high-fantasy illustration intended to bridge the gap between classic card design and modern visual standards. The artwork adheres to the archetypal depiction of a stealth-based operative, focusing on functional legibility for tournament play while maintaining the thematic identity consistent with the set's role as a cornerstone of the current card pool.
