Where it came from
Ninja's Kunai was released in early 2022 as part of the Magic: The Gathering set Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty. This set was designed to reimagine the world of Kamigawa through a fusion of traditional Japanese aesthetics and high-tech cyberpunk elements, reflecting the set's central theme of a society evolving through technology.
The card was illustrated by artist Lius Lasahido, who focused on integrating the signature aesthetic of the set by depicting the kunai as a modernized, energy-infused tool. Within the game's mechanics, it serves as an equipment card that emphasizes the ninja-themed archetypes prominent in the expansion, and it was received as a flavorful, utilitarian piece of equipment meant to support aggressive playstyles.
