Oblivion Sower

Oblivion Sower was introduced as part of the Battle for Zendikar expansion in 2015, specifically featuring an alternate-art promotional version given to participants in the set's release events. The card reflects the set's central narrative involving the return of the Eldrazi, eldritch entities from the Blind Eternities that threaten the plane of Zendikar. Mechanically, the card was designed to interact with the exile zone, a signature mechanic for the Eldrazi, allowing players to ramp their mana by pulling lands from an opponent's exiled cards into play.

The artwork for this version was commissioned from artist Slawomir Maniak, who was tasked with conveying the sheer scale and horrific, alien nature of the Eldrazi. The visual style leans into the distorted, colorless aesthetic established for the faction, emphasizing mass and otherworldly texture. Upon release, the card was received with significant interest by tournament players, who valued its unique ability to disrupt an opponent's resources while advancing their own board state, leading it to become a staples of the era's competitive environment.
