One with Nature

One with Nature was released in 2003 as part of the Scourge expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Scourge served as the final set in the Onslaught block, a period characterized by a heavy mechanical emphasis on the creature type 'Sliver' and an intricate cycle of cards centered around mana ramp and land utility. The card reflects the set's broader thematic exploration of nature and the expansion of the green color identity, designed to provide players with a repeatable method for thinning their deck of basic lands.

The card features illustration by Darrell Riche, an artist who contributed extensively to the visual language of the early 2000s Magic sets. Riche’s work on this piece captures the card’s effect through a serene, atmospheric depiction of an individual becoming integrated with the natural forest environment. Upon release, the card was received as a situational but flavorful utility enchantment, often favored in casual formats where land-searching mechanics provide consistent resource development throughout a game.
