Where it came from
Daru Warchief was released in 2003 as part of the Scourge expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Serving as the final set in the Onslaught block, Scourge leaned heavily into tribal synergies, rewarding players for building decks around specific creature types. The Warchief was designed to bolster the Soldier tribe, providing both a cost reduction for subsequent Soldier spells and a passive power and toughness boost to the army on the battlefield.
