Where it came from
One with the Kami was released as part of the Neon Dynasty Commander set in 2022, a collection designed to complement the main Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty expansion. This set marked a return to the plane of Kamigawa, reimagining its traditional, myth-inspired roots through the lens of a high-tech, cyberpunk-inspired future. The card was crafted to support green-aligned enchantment strategies, emphasizing the deep, spiritual connection between the living world and the nature spirits that define the plane.
The artwork, illustrated by Svetlin Velinov, leans into the thematic duality of the set by depicting a figure merging seamlessly with the ethereal energy of the kami. Velinov’s work is characterized by vibrant, glowing motifs that mirror the neon-soaked aesthetics of the Kamigawa revival. Upon its release, the card was well-received by the Commander community for its utility in graveyard-focused decks, serving as a functional piece that reinforces the set's focus on the cyclical bond between magic and technology.
