Where it came from
Open the Armory was released in 2021 as part of the Commander Legends set, a collection specifically designed to facilitate the popular multiplayer Commander format of Magic: The Gathering. This card serves as a specialized tutor, allowing players to search their libraries for Auras or Equipment, reflecting the set's focus on enabling distinct deck archetypes and synergy-driven gameplay.
The artwork for this printing was provided by artist Greg Staples. His illustration depicts a moment of preparation, capturing a character reaching for their gear in a style consistent with the high-fantasy aesthetic of the Magic multiverse. The card was well-received by players for its utility in equipment-heavy decks, providing a reliable way to retrieve essential game-ending artifacts or protective enchantments.
