What it does

The one thing the Gatewatch didn't expect to find on a plane ruled by Nicol Bolas was perfection.

Where it came from
Open into Wonder was released in 2020 as part of the Zendikar Rising Commander set, a collection of preconstructed decks designed to accompany the Zendikar Rising expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The card was specifically featured in the Sneak Attack deck, a list centered around the rogue archetype and the mechanics of rewarding combat damage and card advantage. Its design reflects the set's return to the adventure-themed, treasure-hunting aesthetic of the Zendikar plane.
The card’s illustration was created by artist Titus Lunter, whose work is frequently featured in Magic: The Gathering for its distinct atmospheric quality. The visual direction focuses on the theme of exploration and discovery, depicting a character uncovering a hidden power within the perilous landscapes of Zendikar. Upon its release, the card was received as a functional tool for Commander players looking to maximize card draw during aggressive board states, earning a place in many blue-based tempo and rogue tribal strategies.
