Ornithopter

The Ornithopter, first introduced in the 1993 Alpha set of Magic: The Gathering, is one of the game's most iconic artifact creatures. Designed by Christopher Rush, it represents a mechanical flying machine capable of taking flight without the need for mana, reflecting the card's status as a zero-cost utility creature. Its inclusion in the Dominaria United token sheet continues the tradition of featuring this classic design as a specialized token, honoring its long-standing role in combo decks and affinity strategies.

The art and design philosophy behind the Ornithopter have remained remarkably consistent over decades, emphasizing its delicate, insect-like aesthetic. By the time it was featured as a token in the Dominaria United set, the card was firmly established as a staple of game history, representing the evolution of Magic from its early roots to a modern, expansive ecosystem. It remains widely recognized by players for its ability to provide early board presence in exchange for no mana cost, a fundamental design choice that has defined its gameplay utility since the early 1990s.
