Ajani, Sleeper Agent Emblem

The Ajani, Sleeper Agent emblem was released in 2022 as part of the Dominaria United token and emblem set. It serves as a mechanical representation of the ultimate ability of the planeswalker card Ajani, Sleeper Agent, which allows a player to place poison counters on an opponent whenever they cast a creature or planeswalker spell. Emblems in Magic: The Gathering are created to track persistent effects that do not exist on the battlefield as permanents, acting as a functional memory aid for complex game states.

The art for this emblem was created by illustrator Magali Villeneuve, a prominent contributor to the Magic: The Gathering art stable. Villeneuve's design captures the corrupted, Phyrexian-aligned essence of Ajani Goldmane, aligning with the narrative arc of the Dominaria United set, which centered on the return of the Phyrexians to the plane of Dominaria. The visual style reflects the dark, biomechanical aesthetic synonymous with the Phyrexian invasion, designed to evoke a sense of inevitable doom for the player's opponents.
