Where it came from
Orvar, the All-Form was introduced in the 2021 Magic: The Gathering expansion set Kaldheim, which drew heavily from Norse mythology and Viking culture. This specific variant is a promotional printing released alongside the set, featuring unique borderless art that distinguishes it from the standard card frame. The character is portrayed as a shapeshifting deity, and the card's design allows players to create copies of their own permanents, reflecting the fluid and volatile nature of the mythic figure.
The card was illustrated by Victor Adame Minguez, an artist recognized for his dynamic and vibrant style within the fantasy genre. In designing this piece, the intent was to capture Orvar’s multiform appearance, utilizing swirling elements and a ethereal color palette to emphasize the character’s ability to exist in many states at once. Upon release, the card gained significant attention in the Commander format for its potential to generate overwhelming board states, leading to its popularity among players who favor complex, synergy-driven deck strategies.
